About Webberville, MI

Webberville is a village in Leroy Township, Ingham County in the State of Michigan. The village is just northeast of the junction of M-43 and M-52 with I-96. It is about 5 miles southeast of Williamston and about 20 miles southeast of Lansing. As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,503 people, 561 households, and 403 families residing in the village. The Webberville Community Schools mission is to provide a progressive personalized education in a safe and caring environment by dedicated vision-driven staff.

Webberville was first settled in 1837 by Ephraim Meech. It was originally named Phelpstown after David Phelps, hosted the first town meeting. Renamed LeRoy in 1850 for Daniel LeRoy, Michigan’s first Attorney General, it remained by that name until the post office closed for various reasons in 1862. In 1867, the village was moved one mile and reorganized, and since another town named LeRoy in Michigan had been organized during the closing, it was renamed Webberville, this time after the postmaster, Huber P. Webber. It was eventually incorporated as a village in 1883.
