About Grand Ledge, MI

Grand Ledge lies in Eaton County, though a small portion extends into Clinton County and it sits above the Grand River. The city is know for its 300 million year old sandstone and quartzite rock ledges that rise 60 feet above the Grand River and are used by recreational rock climbers. First settled in the late1830’s, the city received its name and first post office in 1850 ad was incorporated in 1871.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7,813 people, 3,262 households and 2,123 families residing in the city, the median 
age was 35. The median income for a household in the city was $47,043 and the median income for a family was $55,727.

Grand Ledge Public Schools is known for its distinguished student achievement and exemplary delivery of quality educational programs. The total enrollment in the district is 6811.

Grand Ledge is host to six wonderful festivals every year, including Yankee Doodle Days, the Island Art Fair, Victorian Days, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, and every autumn the Color Cruise and Island Festival.
