Ionia, Michigan is the largest city in Ionia County and is located about 40 miles northwest of Lansing. M-66 runs north to south through the middle of the city while M-21 runs east to west through it. Ionia has a total area of 5.48 square miles and has an estimated population of 11,500 people.

There are plenty of things to do in Ionia for people of all ages with many kinds of interests. Every year in late July, Ionia hosts the Ionia Free Fair, the world’s largest admission-free fair. The fair is full of events, vendors, concessions, and camping. There is even an opportunity for visitors to participate in the Ionia Idol singing competition if they sign up in advance. The fair regularly hosts over 500,000 attendees, and this year the event is from July 13-22.

Ionia Public Schools offers education to children of all ages in the area through one high school, one middle school, and five elementary schools. The district serves 3,300 students and also provides other options to enhance student learning like an alternative high school, a virtual school program, and an institute of technology.
