Eaton Rapids, Michigan


Eaton Rapids is a city in Eaton County in the U.S. State of Michigan. The city is located in the south of Eaton Rapids Township, on the boundary with Hamlin Township, through it is politically independent of both townships. As of the Census of 2000 there were 5,330 people, 2,067 households and 1,399 families residing in the city.

Eaton Rapids is called Island City, nestled at the juncture of the Grand River and Spring Brook. Eaton Rapids first claim to fame were the magnetic spring waters that were discovered. The spring water was analyzed by Professors Duffield and Kedzie of the Michigan Agriculutural College and found to be high in Magnesium, iron, soda, potassium, sodium, silica acid and lime. People came from all over the world to seek cures for every ailment known to man. Eaton Rapids is an island city and there is also an island within the city. Eaton Rapids prides itself on small town values. Eaton Rapids was chosen as the first of the “Family Friendly Cities” by the Michigan International Year of the Family Council.
