Agents and staff in the Coldwell Banker Hubbell BriarWood, Okemos office had fun Thursday, May 25th on Red Nose Day thanks to Denise Mauer, Relocation Director, who got the office involved in this year's Red Nose Day.
What is Red Nose Day? Red Nose Day was started in 1985 by writer/director Richard Curtis (Love Actually) with the aim to end child poverty by raising money and awareness. Comic Relief, the non-profit organization co-founded by Curtis, started the very first Red Nose Day in the U.K. in 1988 with millions of people participating in the first year. Since it's inception, Comic Relief has raised over $1 billion dollars worldwide.
Red Nose Day was brought to the United States in 2015 and has gotten actors and comedians involved raising over $60 million. Curtis said "For many years, I have dreamt of bringing Red Nose Day to the US, and I am so excited that we have teamed up with NBC, who will do such a brilliant job on this." This year the cast from Love Actually was back together for a special Red Nose Day reunion, which aired on NBC's Red Nose Day Special fundraiser event Thursday evening.
Walgreens also played a key part in the Red Nose Day festivities by selling red noses, balloons and other items for Red Nose Day. They will donate 50 cents for each nose sold to Comic Relief Inc.'s Red Nose Day Fund.
May 25th was just the start and there's still time to get involved. Walgreens will be collecting donations and selling noses until June 3rd and any funds donated on the Red Nose Day Facebook page will be matched until June 15th by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation up to $1 million. Get out there and get YOUR red noses on!
