Are you ready to make a few changes around your house for the New Year without breaking the bank? Splashing your walls with some fresh coats of paint will make your rooms stand out, and can potentially make your home look even bigger or more inviting. Choosing which colors to use and where to put them can seem tricky, but with our tips your rooms will be looking brighter and fresher than ever.
Use natural lighting wisely. If you want to make a room look larger than it really is, try using lighter colors or pastels to open the space up and reflect the natural light. In contrast, if you want to make a space feel more intimate, try using a darker paint color that will absorb natural light.
Put paint samples on different walls. In every room some walls will get more natural light than others. Because of this, you’ll want to put paint samples on a few walls of the room and look at them throughout the day to really see what the paint will look like when it’s permanently on.
Use a different color on interesting features. If your room has some things worth highlighting, like moldings or a fireplace, show them off by painting them a different color that pops from the rest of the room. This contrast will show off the unique aspects of your home.
Use the color wheel for reference. If you’re trying to create a cohesive color scheme throughout the room, using a color wheel will help you choose colors that are similar but still pop when placed together. On the other hand, if you want to really make something pop, try to pick colors that are on opposite ends of the color wheel to maximize the contrast.
Pick what you like. In the end, you are the one living in the home and you have to love the paint colors. Regardless of what any store or blog post tells you, as long as you like the color schemes of your paint, your home will be looking great!
