Westphalia, Michigan is located between Grand Rapids and Lansing, about eight miles north of I-96. Westphalia is a village in Clinton County, has a total area of 1.14 square miles, and an estimated population of around 930 residents. As told by the Westphalia website, “we may be small, but we’re not sleepy!”

Being in the middle of two large Michigan cities, Westphalia offers the peace and quiet of small town life with the convenience and opportunities of city life. The village is about 30 minutes northwest of Lansing and about 50 minutes east of Grand Rapids. This progressive community continues to grow and embraces new commercial and residential real estate developments.

Westphalia is home to over 30 local businesses. The food at many of the local restaurants is raved about, and it’s almost guaranteed that you will encounter some friendly customer service. Downtown is known for its “clean, safe, and friendly hometown atmosphere.” The Westphalia Historical Society can also educate you about the history of the city, and the story of how its German-Catholic ancestors settled on the land in 1836.

There are a few options for children when it comes to education. Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools provides an elementary school and a combined middle and high school for students in Pewamo, Matherton, and Westphalia. In 2016, the district was ranked among the top 20 best high schools in the state of Michigan. St. Mary School also offers classes for around 260 children in grades K-6.
