Mid-Michigan Move: The Best of Haslett

Haslett, Michigan is located east of East Lansing, and north of Okemos in Ingham County. Haslett is another community governed by and positioned in Meridian Charter Township. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Haslett has a population of around 20,000 people and covers 9.1 square miles of land.

 

Haslett’s foremost feature is Lake Lansing, which is around 500 acres in size. The lake is located in the northeast corner at the intersection of Marsh Road and Haslett Road. Lake Lansing Park South is located on the lake, where there is public access to the beach and a playground, and there is plenty of room for other activities such as fishing, boating, and volleyball. Lake Lansing Park North is perfect for all seasons, and provides a variety of terrains for outdoor activities like biking and hiking.

 

Haslett Public Schools provides education for children of all ages with one high school (grades 9-12), one middle school (grades 6-8), two elementary schools (grades 2-5), and one early childhood center (grades K-1). HPS participates in the Schools of Choice program and has an extensive Advanced Placement Curriculum. HPS serves about 2700 students, and according to their website, 95% of those students continue further education after graduating high school. In 2014, Haslett High School was ranked #62 on Newsweek’s America’s Top High Schools list.

 

Many local shops and restaurants make Haslett a place that feels like home. Other notable places to visit in Haslett are the Meridian Sun Golf Club and the Haslett Branch of the Capital Area District Library. With both the calm of the serene nature parks in the area and the bustle of city life just down the road in Lansing, Haslett is like the best of both worlds for many residents.
