East Lansing, Michigan is located primarily in Ingham County, though a small portion lies in Clinton County. It is best known as the home of Michigan State University, a member of the Big Ten Conference. East Lansing covers 13.67 square miles of area and has an estimated population of just over 48,600 people.

There are 4.5 miles of paved trails throughout East Lansing with many neighborhood parks, playground equipment, picnic tables, and sporting fields located along them. Community events in East Lansing include the Art Festival, Project Pride, East Lansing Film Festival, Great Lakes Folk Festival, Summer Solstice, Jazz Festival, Winter Festival, Chili Cook-Off, plus many more. Grand River Avenue is a long road located in the middle of the city lined with many clothing stores, restaurants, and other retail shops. This road separates the north side of the university campus from the city.

East Lansing is also located about 10 minutes directly east of the state capital in Lansing. Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) provides transportation to and from East Lansing, Lansing, and other surrounding areas daily. With access to the city life, the college life, and also some quaint suburbs, East Lansing provides something for everyone.

East Lansing Public Schools is a medium-sized suburban school district, offering five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school to students in the area. The 12.5 square miles includes most of the City of East Lansing, and small portions of Lansing, Lansing Township, and Meridian Township. The district serves around 3,400 students and is dedicated to providing every pupil with exemplary instruction. There are also private schools in the area such as St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School and Stepping Stones Montessori School.

Michigan State University is the largest education institution in the state of Michigan and the sixth largest in the United States. MSU has more than 200 programs of study including three medical schools, a law school, and numerous PhD programs.
