On October 1, 2016 the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) hosted its annual Lansing Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis Walk at Hawk Island Park. This event hit close to home for CBHB, as our Director of Operations Kris VanDeventer was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease in 2009.
Kris has been a regular attendee of the walk since she was diagnosed, and was recognized as the 2015 Adult Honored Hero last year. Kris has other relatives who also suffer from Crohn’s, and that inspired her to stop feeling embarrassed and start taking action. This year, Kris raised over $1,500 for the campaign and looks forward to continue spreading awareness and donating money.
Currently, Kris’s Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis are in remission, and she is grateful for every day. She encourages those who have Inflammatory Bowel Disease to reach out to the CCFA for support as she has been doing regularly since she was diagnosed.
