Getting Your Home Ready this Fall

You can ignore it all you want, but as we enjoy the last few weeks of warmer weather, it's time to put away the flip flops and prepare our homes for the fall season. Depending on your location, the weather could change rapidly. Don't get caught unprepared this year!

Interior

1. Check your furnace

The last thing you want is a broken HVAC system when the temps drop. Hire a professional to check your system for efficiency. If you're thinking of selling this season, checking the furnace before listing is important.

2. Winterize Air Conditioner

It's a good idea to cover your outdoor unit for the fall and winter. If you use air conditioning units in the windows, make sure to take them out this season.

3. Windows and Doors

Caulk windows and doors, change screens if needed.

4. Check the plumbing

Prevent any burst pipes by ensuring they are well insulated, and turn off valves in the case that the pipes do freeze.

5. Reverse The Ceiling Fan

You probably didn't even think of this. Create an upward draft the redistributes warm air. Make sure to give the fans a good cleaning first.

Exterior

1. Roof Check

Do a visual check of your roof, and climb up yourself for a better view. if you're worried, call a professional to check it out.

2. Clean Gutters

Remove leaves, nests and debris from the gutters. Fall is a prime time for leaves to clog your gutters. Get a head start now.

3. Remove Seasonal Furniture

Clean and store away patio furniture before it gets ruined.

4. Seal The Driveway

Inspect your driveway for cracks and coat it with commercial sealer. Sealing the driveway will help extend the life of the pavement.

5. Take care of trees, plants and flowers

Trim any dead trees before the winter rolls in. Do any necessary treatments.
