When searching for the perfect agent to sell your home or help you buy a new one, there are a few things to consider before making a decision.
First, look at what types of property the agent usually deals with. You want to make sure the agent is an expert at handling the kind of place you want to buy or sell. For example, if you want to buy a house in the country and the agent usually sells commercial real estate in the city, they probably aren’t the right choice for you.
Next, find the agent’s reviews. Whether online or by word of mouth, what previous clients of this agent have to say really do matter. You can learn a lot from satisfied customers, but be wary of those who may be bad mouthing just to ruin reputations. A couple bad remarks are nothing to worry about, but a page of negative comments is definitely a red flag.
Then, research the agent’s experience. Are you open to the idea of being someone’s first sell? Every agent has been there at one point in time. If lack of experience is something that doesn’t faze you, take that plunge and help the agent build his/her clientele. On the other hand, if plenty of experience is something you need to feel comfortable with your agent, make sure he/she has it to give you peace of mind that you’re in good hands.
Lastly, make sure you and the agent are on the right page and schedule. If you are a client who needs to speak to your agent on a regular basis, you want your agent to be okay with that and have time to talk with you. You and your agent need to be able to communicate about your wants and needs, and come up with a plan that pleases the both of you.
